To rephrase; If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did it make a noise?……………… That this question is framed in those terms speaks directly of the reality we live in. On some level, the query remains relevant only because we have ears to hear. If we theorize that one: the only way for us determine that a tree actually falls is to hear the sound waves created by the falling tree, and two: that humans as a species lacked the organic apparatuses with which to pick up sound information in any manner; then given the sphere of perception we have available, the question ‘If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did it make a noise’ becomes to us ‘If a crubnic sproks in meta-ether and no one vibes it, did it make a gimpik’. Of course, if we suppose that a crubnik did indeed sprok, we would still be unable to fathom that it did because we have no viberoos with which to vibe.

One can say the same of human eyes or lack thereof. If the human species never evolved photosensitive nerve endings capable of picking up light, or that our evolution; in its relative deterministic nature, was not influenced by certain external forces and elements such as photons, then it is possible to proposition we would not have evolved eyes with which to see; hence the nature of light would, at least by default, be invisible to the human psyche. Now taking that all other laws of physics are maintained, the hypothetical human species’ lack of light-sensitive nerve endings does not mean light, and its properties as currently understood, does not exist because it inhibits a spectrum outside what a ‘blind’ human species are able to perceive. It certainly does not mean that a machine cannot be created that converts some essence present in the “darkness” around us into electric signals that can be used to power a cathode ray tube, but try explaining that to the intrinsically photo-insensitive.

The immediate and most important implications seem to be pointing to the possibility of some other essence/attribute of our universe existing outside the sphere of any conscious, physical, molecular perception available to us merely because of how little affect, if any, such a property of the universe has on our immediate cognitive capabilities and observable surroundings. If the mechanism of evolution has neither free will nor purpose and operates within the boundaries of physical laws governing interactions on a molecular level and as such can only be reactionary in nature. At the same time if evolution is unbiased and will follow an infinite number of evolutionary branches that would create equilibrium or stability within a system that exists outside of the influences of another system. Then in so far as one force is capable of exerting influence on another or not, our entire universe could have unfolded along an evolutionary path which could and did achieve equilibrium outside of another equally extant yet, in that instance, unnecessary set of universal properties.

Branding is the culture of the future.

Branding that connects on a deeper level tends to do so as a result of the product being marketed.

I agree with one of the above statements. I can imagine a situation where every brand in circulation today suddenly doesn’t exist and see that branding is just as much a natural evolution of capitalism as the evolution of taste in music or the giving of names to accurately identify individuals. One can conversely say that the need to store information is a reflection of the propensity with which evolution stores information. The basic principles that underline the operations of our global society are guided by the sopistication and accuracy of our information distribution systems which are relatively, a crude replica of the information superautobahn that is our body. It becomes less risible then how, unlike the meticulous note taker that is evolution, humans species as a whole have done a piss poor job of storing our histories and factoring that knowledge in our decision making on every base level. A cursory glance at the landscape that is current scientific advancement and our collective human history will reveal everything and nothing. A lot about us slowly begins to make more sense. We were either premature or woefully late in crowning the Information Age.

Any sensory information we receive can be inadvertently taken out of context and mangled by our perspectives to conform to or dissent a preexisting point of view. A key to self-awareness or introspective intelligence is being able to recognize when this occurs. Like liquids, gases, or any known substance in a state of motion, trains of thought in our minds follow the path of least resistance or the path most traveled. With the passage of time, we each individually carve out our own unique neurological pathways through which information is filtered, like water compelled to move by forces outside its control, shaping the land it flows on. Hence we develop our biases or our characteristics. In hindsight only can a mind be mapped with any certain degree of accuracy depending on the volume of knowledge about the predicating influences that we have available. That however does not imply that the pathways can be duplicated nor can they be precisely shaped, it would be like predicting the pattern of fissures on a drying piece of putty. Each mind therefore is like a version of an earth that has been weathered and carved by nature and environment, having its own cracks, crevices, mountains and rivers and vegetation and life forms. The closer the factors determining the conditions that affect change or movement, the similar the features of the earths, likewise minds. Self-awareness is figuring out where the deep crevices of our minds are that divert all the mental flow towards themselves and chip away at them or other pathways to create a more even terrain. Some chip away with hammers, others with krupp earth movers, others yet not at all. Some dig deeper in mud, some dig wider in granite, some have been digging the same sand hole an entire lifetime. This ought not be considered a good or a bad thing, as the conditions that have formed such compulsions do so while maintaining equilibrium not necessarily in shape but in total functionality; like a balanced ecosystem.

Dreaming is the state of mind that is lacking the inhibitions of movement through pathways normally imposed by the conscious mind and is to a certain extent a more naturally free flowing train of thoughts whose content is influenced by its proximity to closely linked lattice of neurological pathways. A dream subject does not pop out of thin air but is the result of a cumulative probability made up of the collective preexisting neurological, physiological framework of interfaces in the brain. It is a complex system of associations whose possible outcomes cannot be predicted unless one can control every single influence imposed on the system from the moment it has acquired the ability to accept and process sensory information.

It would seem dream thoughts, although triggered to a starting point by certain outside influences, are free of the directions of the conscious mind and disperse in all directions, akin to the principles of air diffusing in a network of interconnected tubes, and in the process re-establishes the existence of these connections, or at least strengthen these connections for the conscious mind to take advantage of when necessary. We could almost say that the dream mind is the explorer of our mental landscape. On the other hand, the act of consciously sending out a thought looking for information in our mental database has little bearing on the outcome of result. The speed at which a thought traverses the mental realm is constant amongst all healthy individuals akin to the constant of speed of light. The conscious mind can point the thought in the general direction but the flow is determined by the least resistant pathways and the accuracy and efficiency of the outcome are dependent on the familiarity of the terrain in that particular direction. For most of us, a lot of the terrain that has developed over time is unexplored by the conscious mind and therefore to it, does not exist. How then can we consciously direct a thought towards a place that we are not aware of. There are a lot of factors that have so far accumulated which play a much greater role in mental prowess than the conscious directive. The character of the terrain, the inter-connectivity of our neurological pathways, the variance in the strengths with which each pathway naturally pulls the thought and now, how much of that terrain is actually accessible and how much of the terrain we are consciously aware of versus the state of mind when we dream, all act to delimit our everyday capabilities.

Meditation and the creative mind are separate parts of this system. Creativity is defined as ‘the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination’-1. The creative individual has a more diversely connected network of pathways through which thoughts can flow and extract information. These pathways would also be relatively equal in size and influence allowing for a broader, more even distribution of thoughts. Hence wider accesses to latent information that strays off the beaten path generating a significant increase in eureka! potential. Creativity comes about as a result of thoughts flowing naturally through this system and the greater the number of even sized neurological pathways and the more of these pathways that are interconnected, the more creative an individual is. A purpose of meditation from a psychological viewpoint is to heuristically enable the conscious mind to replicate the processes of the dream mind at will. By freeing the conscious mind from the attraction of the rigid structures it has built itself we acquire the direction of the conscious thought and the free flow of the dream thought. Relatively, children of a certain age are considered to be more creative. Such creativity is usually attributed to their curiosity about everything around them. It is very possible that curiosity is actually the characteristic of a transitioning mind and the more effectively a mind is trained to conform to a rigid structure, the more focused the curiosity becomes. It could explain why we cannot force curiosity on ourselves just for the sake of curiosity.

Our brains have evolved to cope in our environments with the ability to literally evolve in real time in response to external stimuli. In the beginning as information is acquired and stored as trigger neurons, there is no rigid structure to the way that information is filed away other than perhaps categorization based on the nature of the medium of the stimulus itself. As more information is collected, structures begin to form between existing neurons or electrical data packets. These data packs turn on and transmit signals every time new data packs enter the system. Whenever there is a similarity between the signals transmitted and data is passed between any of the neurons, they merge together retaining the individual differences separate but part of the now combined analogous data. It is important to note that this process begins from the moment the organism has acquired the ability to accept and process sensory information. Consciousness does not yet exist, not as we know it. It is not the consciousness that the male sperm has when it is driven by a certain need, a genealogical footprint to race to the ovaries of the female. Rather it is the consciousness that is developed the moment a routine is recognized, a connection is made through repetitious exposure to the same kind of external stimulus. The answers will lie in the difficult task of ascertaining the exact moment that occurs. However, regardless of when such a moment occurs, that it happens predicates an organism’s ability to acquire consciousness.

Ultimately however, the real question revealing itself is the one regarding the ability to store information. Evolution without storage capacity is like gravity without planets. What turn of events initiated the ability in any form to retain data and how did the process of evolution bring itself into existence?
